Clarity
Many of the owners come to us a sense of uncertainty or confusion about what they ultimately want in a transition and how to get it. We help owners and, in the case of family businesses, family members define their own unique destination(s) by helping them clearly articulate what they want, what they do not want, and when for the transition. This process also provides opportunity to reconcile differences, close gaps, create greater alignment, and strengthen relationships.
Competency
Rather than feeling inadequate or dependent on others, we support the development of new knowledge, ability, and skill for our clients so that they remain the captain of their ship. Too many advisors are only interested in creating dependency, being the quarterback calling the shots, or worse - in rare cases, keeping owners crippled by using their psychology against them. Transformational engagements is one of our core values and that means we are committed to helping people develop their own answers.
Confidence
Significant transitions are not the time for false confidence or over-confidence that prevent openness to new ways of being and doing. True confidence comes through exploration, gaining objective clarity, and developing fit-for-purpose competencies to succeed at points of transition. Orange Kiwi works with owners to instill a sense of strategic direction, personal mastery, and true confidence which are essential for leading advisors, family and the business through the challenges of significant transitions.
Control
Appropriate forms of control are essential to move an organization, family, and oneself toward goal achievement. Differentiating between forms of control that help and those that hurt efforts is an important part of the transition journey. During the exploratory phase of our work, owners are equipped to navigate critical strategic decisions with greater control because they know what, when, and why to say “yes”, “maybe” or “no” along the way to get the results they are looking for.
Conflict
Yes, you read that aright. There will be conflict but, not the kind you’ve probably experienced in the past. Conflict is an essential form of communication for transition success. Yet, the majority of our clients have experienced non-productive and sometimes destructive forms of conflict (including avoidance). Rather than avoiding conflict or engaging in other unhelpful forms, we help owners, families, and their management teams engage in productive conflict. This is the form of communication that drives commitment, accountability, and results.
